It’s a boy…so, play the name game!

A month ago, we found out that we’re having a boy! I’ve included several of his latest pictures, which were apparently hard to get because he was moving so much (at one point during the ultrasound he had his legs above his head)- the ultrasound took an hour! In the bottom picture he’s sucking on fingers. He’s been quite a kicker lately, so I’m aware of his poking presence at least every few hours. He seems particularly inclined to kick his hardest between 10:30 and 11:30 at night- I assume because I’m laying down and can feel him better, but maybe he’s a night owl like Harry.

One of the (often comical) joys of knowing the gender has been playing the name game. With our last name, it can get really interesting. Feel free to join us in the fun by adding any of your ideas…preferably the really bad, yet funny, ideas.

Here’s some names to spark brainstorming:
Max (although it’s actually pretty cool & hip, it’s also a lot of pressure to live up to!)
Hunka hunka burnin’
Forty
The ever popular Richard/Dick

We had some girl names lined up, too: Megan, Sharon, Karen, Summer, April (test them out!)

  1. * Herbie (as in, Herbie the Love [Bug])
    * Rudy
    * Bruce
    * Miles
    * Rob Base
    * DJ
    * Earnest
    * Franc (pronounced “fronk”)
    * German
    * I, New York, (with the commas)
    * Hanz
    * Franz
    * Dirk the Daring
    * Arthur (could shorten it to Art or Artie)
    * Harrison (because he is)
    * Kathleenson (because he is)

    I’ll think of some more. This is fun.

  2. Just thinking, are we going to have to take this down some day before he gets old enough to understand it? I’m trying to think of an equivalent experience and it’s like my parents taking out a full-page ad in some obscure journal in 1973 asking the world to help them pick a name.

    Weird.

  3. I love your additions, particularly Earnest.

    As far as taking the post down, I think by the time he understands it &/or finds it, he’ll know us well enough to see the humor. At least we’re not truly naming him this way- we’re just avoiding the potentially extra embarrassing options!

    Since I’m listening to him at the time, I’m going to add Sufjan to the list. Sting and Bono probably wouldn’t be good ideas, either.

  4. How about Charles Ray Shawmall?

  5. What was the story behind that one?

  6. I’m not sure what the story was, but I remember Paw Paw saying that name and “JoJo the Dogface Boy” a lot when we were younger. I later found out that Charles Ray was a real person, and he used to live on the same street as Mom and everyone when they were little. I’m not sure if I’m spelling his last name right. I imagine JoJo was probably a real kid, too.

  7. Here’s Jo Jo.

    Some more of my favorites:
    Edgar. Bad. Horace Ogden Teterboro (so he could be H.O.T.). Friend. Mann. Yahoo Serious. Larry (and the rest can be Daryl).

    Panama. Montana (definite stage name potential).

    Doctor. And then he becomes a doctor. Dr. Doctor Love. Can’t you see I’m burnin’ burnin’?

    The. The Love. And then people would ask, “where is the love?” and he would answer, “here I am.”

  8. Everybody in the Tadlock family votes for Charles Ray Chaumont. Your Aunt Kathy says she has heard that name forever.

    Love you, Mom

  9. OH MY GOSH!!! Kathleen- I didn’t even know you were prego! Guess what? So am I!! We’re having a girl! When are you due? This little one should make her appearance the first week of Jan. sometime. I laughed out loud at the name possibilities for your little man. It’s so much more fun with ya’lls last name. =)
    Anyway, congrats! Jeff and I are so excited for you both. Keep in touch!
    Love, Shannon

  10. What do I win for guessing the right name?

  11. You are the lucky winner of Unclehood!!!
