Our son, Charlie, was born Monday, February 5, 2007, at 6:20pm, weighing in at 9 pounds, 2 ounces (0.65 stones). He was a little over 20 inches long (51 cm).

Here is a slideshow of pictures from his first week: http://www.flickr.com/photos/loveoirs/sets/72157594525817218/show/

In addition to learning how to live again and recovering from labor and delivery, Kathleen and I are trying to recover from illnesses we acquired before the birth. Kathleen has a cold and a bad cough and I have strep throat. So, please be gentle when you email or call.

Speaking of which, we really do appreciate the well-wishes and the support. I am overcome emotionally by all the love we have received bringing Charlie into the world and in the near future I hope to write about what this experience has meant (and is meaning) to me. He is here–and we are surviving–because of all of you.

That said, while we would love to call or email all of you, our most likely action right now will be to not. We’re in biggest-bang-for-the-buck mode, so if we have anything to say, we’ll probably say it here as it reaches the most people at once.

So, that’s it for now. Take care. Until our next communiqué, this is Harry writing on behalf of the Love family in Seattle.

  1. Congrats you two. You both look great & baby Charlie is adorable. What a big baby! Kathleen I hope you are feeling o.k. Now the fun begins. All I can say is record every moment that you can because Randy & Emily still like to watch their old videos. I think of ya’ll often & wish we could visit & maybe we can plan something in future. Emily was married 10/07/06 & Randy, Jr. will marry Sept. 29th. Again, so happy for you both & neither of you look any different. Hugs & kisses to Babu Charlie!

  2. He is so dear and I agree with you, Kathleen, he looks like Harry. He is an all Love Baby as you were an all Abbott baby! One more day and I’ll get to see him, yea!!!! Much love and hugs to you 3, Mom

  3. Harry and Kathleen - thanks for the photos! Charlie looks very content with you two as his parents. He’s every bit as cute as we expected he would be. Take good care of yourselves - we will leave you to get to know each other for a while.
    We love you!
    Dad and Jody

  4. That’s my little dude! what would he be without a sock monkey?

  5. Oh Kathleen! Good job my friend! He is adorable. It’s amazing how “little boy-ish” he looks already. And what a cute little nose! ;)
My friend, you birthed a child that weighs what Caiden weighs now- at 6 weeks! You deserve a medal- (hint, hint, Harry!)We are so excited for you! We are praying for you daily as we are only steps ahead of you. Just now we are slowly emerging from our newborn-induced hibernation. Things are still rather overwhelming and fuzzy, but it’s getting better every day. LOVE to you all! ~Shannon, Jeff and baby Caiden

  6. He is absolutely adorable! And not in the way you usually say that about newborns…but REALLY, he is so beautiful! Thinking of you all, praying for you in this amazing, exhausting, wonderful time. I love the photos, and appreciate being able to share in this way.
    Love to you,
    Cheney (and fam :)

  7. Congratulations Kathleen and Harry,

Charlie is so handsome and does look like he is already at least six weeks old. I hope you both will feel better soon as taking care of an infant means sleep is sometimes in short supply - those memories are still in my mind after all these years!

Enjoy your wonderful son and your new roles! Take care, Kathleen, of yourself.

  8. Kathleen,

Happy 30th Birthday! I hope that you have a wonderful day full of blessings and smiles from Charlie. We found out that we’re having a boy too :) I’ll need and value your advice.

    Love,

    Tara :)
